In Memory

We wish we could have said goodbye,
To let you know how we felt inside
We don't understand why you had to go,
But it was probably best, we know

Every day we think of you,
And wonder what you're going through
Is it better where you are,
Among the heavens and the stars?

When you left without saying goodbye,
Did you know we would all cry?
Everything that you had planned
Was taken right out of your hand

You left so quickly we could not say goodbye,
And you will never know how it hurt inside

Leslie was born in LaJolla, California, May 3, 1958.  She graduated from Smith College in 1980, a year when there were 10 college grads for every job available. Having spent many years of her youth as a Navy "brat" - she opted to go to and was accepted at OCS, receiving her commission in March, 1981.  Her father didn't retire, but left the Navy after just under 16 years as MMC, Spending his last tour of duty aboard USS Saratoga CVA-60.  Prior to that we spent over 3 years stationed at Leeward Point NAS at Gitmo.  Leslie felt comfortable with the Navy life as she was born into it and spent her formative years there.

I have often said that if I had to describe Leslie in just one word - the only word that I could think of is "altruistic".  Leslie had one sister, Sheryl who has since married and has two daughters.  The oldest is named after Leslie and the youngest has her middle name, Diane.

We certainly would be honored to attend the AMCM reunion in 2000, if it is at all possible.  We didn't get to know too many of her "shipmates" personally and it would be nice to meet a few of them and to have a chance to chat with them.

Let this be a loving reminder
That someone is missing today,
Someone our hearts still hold onto,
As we travel along life's way
Someone who made life so special,
For each of us gathered here,
Someone who isn't forgotten,
But cherished from year to year,
And now as we celebrate Christmas,
Let us fondly recall,
How dearly each of us loved her,
And oh.... how she loved us all!
